If you have a server with Windows Server versions such as 2012, 2016, or 2019, it is fully compatible, as RDS 2022 licenses can be used on hosts with previous versions, but not the other way around.

Can I use my RDS 2012, 2016, 2019 licenses with my Windows Server Version 2022? expand_more

If you have just upgraded your Windows Server to the latest version (2022) and already have RDS licenses from previous versions, you will encounter a compatibility issue and will not be able to use them. You need to acquire the current RDS license.

What should I know before upgrading or purchasing a WinSvr Operating System? expand_more

First, you need to know how many physical cores your server has. You must purchase a license that covers at least 16 cores, and if your server has more than 16, you will need to adjust the quantity with additional 2-core licenses.
